What photo-eye sensors do

Two small sensors face each other at the base of your door — one transmits an infrared beam, the other receives it. If anything breaks the beam (kid, dog, bike), the door reverses. Federal law (UL 325) has required them since 1993.

Why they go out

Five common causes, in order: (1) one sensor knocked out of alignment by a car bumper, (2) lens dust/spider webs blocking the beam, (3) wiring nicked by a roller, (4) sensor bulb burned out, (5) actual sensor failure (rare). We diagnose all five in one visit.

Quick at-home check before you call

If the LED on one sensor is OFF or RED (instead of solid green), it's misaligned. Tilt slightly until it goes solid green. If both are green and the door still won't close, there's a wiring or sensor problem — that's a service call.

How we fix it

Most calls are alignment + cleaning — done in 20 minutes. About 30% need a new sensor pair (small parts add). About 10% need new wiring run from sensor to opener (small extra). All work warrantied 1 year. Written quote on the truck before any work begins.
